Brain Fog is a colloquial term encompassing an assortment of cognitive issues. These issues usually include someone feeling “dull” where they find it hard to concentrate, their memory suffers and they may feel like they cannot explain their thoughts very well, partly caused by their inability to have effective word recall.
There are many different possible causes of the common symptoms associated with “brain fog” and they can generally be categorized as the effects of a chronic immune response, poor energy production and utilization of glucose in the brain (plus elevated levels of ammonia and lactate), intestinal inflammation and associated problems, issues with dopamine and histamine, hormonal imbalances (such as low levels of neurosteroids like pregnenolone) and lastly brain fog could be a result of poor sleep.
